Teacher/Tutor
About The Position
Do you love to teach? Remember why you became a teacher? So do we. As a part-time teacher, you will receive training to deliver Sylvan's proven, personal approach to learning. Sylvan Learning is looking for ENTHUSIASTIC, HAPPY, FLEXIBLE TEAM PLAYERS WHO LOVE WORKING WITH KIDS. We have a 3:1 ratio, personalized instruction, and we prepare your lessons. We are looking for teachers/tutors with expertise in reading, writing, math, high school math, study skills and/or SAT/ACT prep. Due to the extensive training and student connections created, we do not offer summer-only employment. We strongly encourage a commitment minimum of 1 year, however a commitment minimum of 6 months is required.
Requirements
- Knowledge of general office equipment such as copiers, printers, and office phones
- Knowledge of tablet computers (iPads)
- Proven ability to engage, motivate, and inspire students to learn
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and be flexible
- Strong problem solving and customer service skills
- Strong team player
- Ability to commit to at least 2 days per week (Minimum: 4 hours/week)
- Four year degree in education or an applicable subject (ex: English, Math, etc)
- State or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired)
- Knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension required for reading teachers
- Knowledge of math and problem solving strategies required for math teachers
- Knowledge of common core concepts
Nice To Haves
- Minimum of one or two years of teaching/tutoring experience preferred
