About The Position

The position requires an individual who can problem solve and initiate and implement effective solutions. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to successfully modify curriculum and instructional activities across the (secondary/primary/elementary) grade levels. Preference will be given to individuals with knowledge of autism spectrum disorders. The selected candidate must commit to full participation in staff development for the project. If you are a current Bethel School District employee, you must complete an INTERNAL application. All other applicants, including current substitutes, must complete the standard application.

Requirements

  • Valid and appropriate certificate and endorsements for Washington State.
  • Endorsement Required: Special Education K-12.
  • Restraint training.
  • Documented training in Autism.
  • Demonstrated desire and ability to work and communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrate knowledge of specialized training in the TEACCH/Structured Teaching model.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge in and application of Common Core Standards.
  • Successful experience working with high needs special education students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state regulations for special education.
  • Proven ability to work successfully with regular education and special education teachers in coordinating programs, resources, and inclusion.
  • Proven ability to design and implement WAAS portfolios.
  • Successful experience creating and implementing curricular academic and extra curricular activities for special needs students; specifically implementing the Structured/TEACCH components of visual and physical structure.
  • Successful experience and appropriate interventions for adapting and/or modifying the curriculum for diverse needs students to include ABA, PECS, and augmentative communication.
  • Organizational ability and positive attitude to successfully manage student files, participate in MDT, coordinate IEP’s, and develop maintain, and evaluate progress monitoring.
  • Understanding of behavioral motivation and development of successful strategies to help students understand and overcome their behaviors.
  • Demonstrated success in advocacy for identified needs of students.
  • Successful implementation of a district parent group with an emphasis on autism.
