Teacher - Science - General Middle Grades

About the position

The position is for a Certified Classroom Teacher for grades 7th-12th, specifically in the Science subject area, at South Valley Junior High. The role is contracted for 9 months and is exempt. The teacher will be responsible for providing instruction in accordance with state and district guidelines, planning and implementing a program of study that meets the individual needs of students, and creating a conducive learning environment. The teacher will also monitor and assess student progress, communicate effectively with students and parents, and maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Uses effective teaching techniques and materials to implement established curriculum goals and objectives.
• Creates a weekly written lesson plan describing daily learning experiences.
• Monitors and assesses student progress and provides feedback to students and parents.
• Diagnoses, instructs, and evaluates specific student needs.
• Communicates aims and objectives to students in a clear and organized manner.
• Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning.
• Assists administration in implementing policies and rules for student behavior.
• Develops and implements reasonable classroom rules of behavior.
• Creates educational experiences that help students develop personal-social adjustment and life skills.
• Promotes and follows the adopted school district philosophy and policies.
• Communicates concerns and ideas with colleagues, students, parents, and the community.
• Assumes legal responsibility for the supervision of students.
• Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
• Maintains accurate, complete, and legible records as required.

Requirements

• Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited educational institution.
• Must possess a valid Arizona DPS Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Meets all certification requirements for the grade level or subject area.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in teaching science at the middle or high school level.

Benefits

• Annual salary starting at $53,530, depending on experience.
• Full-time equivalency of 1.0 FTE.
• Exempt position with a 9-month contract.
