About The Position

Responsible for assisting with the facilitation of educational curriculum and student success at the microschool concept called Spark Community Schools. Assists teachers as they use a blend of technology-based and teacher-led lessons to ensure mastery of content. Supports teachers and students with Social Emotional Learning, Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Project-Based Learning. Helps cultivate a learning environment where students can be curious, independent, productive, and kind. Creates a safe-space where students are honored and valued for who they are. Helps students attending microschools with learning, supporting students where they are. Works in our microschool setting with teachers and approximately fifteen to twenty Kindergarten-12th grade students. Supports individual student needs with creativity and innovation while respecting all students and families and their access to quality education. Supports teachers with using high impact instructional practices and motivational techniques to engage students in learning.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience using a computer and online tools (email, websites, video streaming, etc.)
  • Ability to pass a Level 1 background check, drug screening, and obtain an AZ IVP fingerprint clearance card
  • Good judgment, discretion, confidentiality

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
  • Experience working with children (coaching, mentoring, childcare, teaching, volunteering, etc.) highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Helps lead a blended-age classroom of 15 - 20 students for 30 hours per week, 180 instructional days and 10 Professional Development days, working a total of 190 days.
  • Assists with maintaining an environment of safety and inclusion.
  • Helps guide students’ individualized learning needs.
  • Supports small group activities.
  • Assists with monitoring student academic progress.
  • Helps communicate with parents and families.
  • Supports and motivates students to be excited about learning.
  • Helps encourage student-led experiential learning.
  • Assists with managing student behavior in a supportive and kind way.
  • Collaborates with teachers and other assistants.
  • Supports in administrative tasks for student enrollment, attendance and materials
  • Substitutes when needed for lead teachers
  • Maintains regular and consistent in-person attendance.
  • Supervises students during outdoor activities/play.
