About The Position

People's Arc of Suffolk's mission is to provide dynamic, innovative and integrated services where children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities discover and define their own quality of life and are thriving to their fullest potential, joined by their families, circles of support and our person-centered organization. At People's Arc of Suffolk’s Saul and Elaine Seiff Educare Center, the model consists of a continuum of services throughout the child’s adolescence, and prepares students for further education, future employment and a life of self-sufficiency. The Teacher's Aide assists the Teacher in the implementation of the education program for individuals from birth to 21 years of age and performs related work as requested.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited High School GED
Must have the ability to supervise children in a variety of educational settings including, but not limited to, self-contained and integrated.
Must be physically able to handle all aspects of the supervision of the day-to-day activities of students which may include, but are not limited to, running, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
All hires must possess a valid NYS Driver’s License at the time of hire.

Nice To Haves

Minimum of one year experience working with children in a classroom or childcare environment preferred.
Experience working with children with special needs is preferred.

Responsibilities

Attends to the physical needs of the children
Adheres to the Health Safety and sanitation policies, and maintains a clean, safe, and hygienic classroom.
Assists the teacher in implementing the education program.
Performs supportive teaching duties under the direction and supervision of the teacher.
Performs additional tasks in a timely fashion
Positions, transfers, and feed students as necessary
