This role introduces students to the basic concepts in STEM to stimulate critical thinking and problem solving particularly in the areas of mathematics and reading literacy. The teacher instructs students individually and in groups using various blended learning and technology integration teaching methods such as mini-lessons, discussions and demonstrations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in education or related degree
  • Must have a current Tennessee Teaching certificate or be in an eligible alternative licensure program

Responsibilities

  • Plans daily lessons to meet the needs of all students and assists students needing additional support. Adapts teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and homework assignments. Communicates those objectives to students.
  • Establishes and enforces rules of behavior and procedures for maintaining order in their classroom.
  • Confers with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
  • Designs and implements assessments that measure progress towards academic standards and identify gaps in learning. Uses assessment data to refine curriculum and adjust instructional practices.
  • Prepares materials and classrooms for class activities and homework assignments. Creates a positive achievement-oriented learning environment.
  • Participates in collaborative curriculum development and grade-level and/or school activities.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development activities.
