About The Position

The English Teacher position at Magnolia Middle School is designed to develop students' skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The teacher will foster communication skills and promote an understanding and appreciation of literature. The role involves motivating students to read a variety of publications, comprehend and critically assess reading materials, and develop skills in English reading, grammar, and syntax. The position is under the general supervision of the School Principal and aims to create a safe and conducive classroom environment for individualized and small group instruction.

Requirements

  • State Certification as an English Education Teacher.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
  • Master's Degree in a related area preferred.
  • Successful prior teaching experiences in English are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and administers English education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in English grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary and proper word usage.
  • Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions on a variety of reading materials.
  • Works with students to prepare materials for inclusion in literary publications and contests.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifying instructional methods as needed.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and maintains inventory records.
