About The Position
The Mama Lere Hearing School at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is dedicated to teaching children with hearing loss to listen, talk, sing, and read. This unique institution provides comprehensive hearing healthcare services, including audiological, speech-language, and educational evaluations, as well as individualized educational plans. The Teacher of the Deaf II plays a crucial role in this mission by evaluating, educating, tutoring, counseling, and providing care to students, both with and without hearing loss, to develop their spoken language and listening skills through a reverse mainstreaming model. This position requires a compassionate and experienced educator who is committed to enhancing the quality of life for young children with hearing loss. In this role, the Teacher will be responsible for providing independent educational services as assigned and actively participating in quality improvement activities. Collaboration with the student educational team is essential to meet the care needs, outcomes, and system objectives for each student. The Teacher will also be responsible for maintaining documentation consistent with medical center and department policies, ensuring compliance with educational standards, and preparing developmentally appropriate auditory-oral curriculum and activities according to each child's Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) or Individualized Education Program (IEP). The Teacher will conduct educational assessments, develop functional and measurable IEP/IFSP goals, and maintain a clean and safe classroom environment that fosters the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth of children. Participation in staff meetings, parent conferences, and professional development opportunities is also a key aspect of this role. The Teacher will supervise student teachers and graduate students, ensuring they provide competent care and comply with established guidelines. Overall, this position is integral to the mission of Vanderbilt University Medical Center to advance health and wellness through exceptional educational programs.
