About The Position

TheraPeds Partners is a therapist-owned and operated organization that partners with schools to provide Teacher of the Blind or Visually Impaired (TVI) (BVI) services to PreK–12 students nationwide. As a team of special education providers, they understand the education process, IDEA requirements, and the importance of collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. Their mission is to deliver high-quality TVI (SPED) services while making meaningful connections in a collaborative learning environment. This is a part-time, on-site role as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) serving a school located in Islip (Long Island), NY. The Teacher of the Blind or Visually Impaired (TVI) will be responsible for providing teaching and case management services to students, conducting assessments, developing IEP plans, evaluating progress, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams (therapists, educators, parents). The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a passion for working with students with special needs. The position is part-time, 12-15 hours/week, for the April – May (25/26) School Year, and 2026-2027 school year, on-site, in-person, for Grades K-5 during school hours 9:20am-3:20pm. Job duties include educational services, case management, and evaluations, with guaranteed hours including documentation, administrative, and planning time.

Requirements

• Bachelors or Masters Degree or higher in Special Education
• Education Specialist Instruction Credential – Visual Impairments
• Must meet California’s Basic Skills Requirement, typically by passing the CBEST exam or an approved alternative.
• Experience working with visually Impaired children
• Organizational and time management skills
• Proficient in use of technology
• Fingerprint background clearance
• Ability to collaborate with school staff and parents with a demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external communications
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Passion for working with students with special needs

Responsibilities

• Provide teaching and case management services to students.
• Conduct assessments.
• Develop, implement, and assess individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Deliver instruction tailored to meet the diverse learning styles and needs of students.
• Collaborate with parents, educators, and specialists to ensure a comprehensive approach to student learning and support.
• Monitor student progress and adapt instructional strategies to improve outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress to inform ongoing instruction and planning.
• Create a welcoming, safe, and productive classroom environment that encourages positive behavior and learning.
• Provide guidance and support to classroom staff in implementing educational strategies for students with special needs.
