About The Position

Long Branch Public School District Teacher of Family and Consumer Science Qualifications: A New Jersey Certificate as a Teacher of Family and Consumer Sciences, or other qualified certifications Demonstrated knowledge of family care/human development, food preparation and nutrition, life-based skills, and resource management. Minimum of four (4) years of successful industry experience. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find acceptable and appropriate. REPORTS TO: Academy Administrator/Principal ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: The Teacher of Consumer Science will cover a broad range of topics, including nutrition, financial literacy, parenting, relationships, and consumer education, aiming to prepare students for the multifaceted challenges of daily living. The teacher will deliver a curriculum that blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on activities, enabling students to develop critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, and provide teachers with appropriate guides and printed materials of programs broadcast within the district. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month contractual position EVALUATION: Evaluated annually in writing by the Academy Administrator/Principal

Responsibilities

  • Instruct in all aspects of essential life skills for personal and professional success
  • Instruct students in the knowledge of nutrition, food safety, financial literacy, and human care.
  • Have the ability to use technology as a means to enhance the students' learning.
  • Teach hands-on skills used for everyday living.
  • Teach the health and safety practices to make informed consumer decisions.
  • Introduce students to related practical skills like cooking or sewing.
  • Evaluate student work and progress
  • Participate in team meetings and in curriculum group meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by the immediate supervisor, Superintendent of Schools, or his designee.
