About The Position

Needham Public Schools is an inclusive, dynamic, and multicultural community seeking an energetic, skilled, and warm part-time (0.5 FTE) 6th grade Math support teacher to join our team at High Rock School. The ideal candidate is prepared to teach and assess middle school math students and develop curriculum, instruction, and assessment materials aligned with the course sequence. Strong mathematics background preferred.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Mathematics license at the appropriate grade level
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with and/or teaching middle school students and an understanding of the needs of students at this age
  • Collaborative work ethic
  • Training/experience in the use of data/ data science, and instructional technology
  • Commitment to inclusive pedagogy
  • Willingness to contribute to student life beyond the classroom

Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will plan and teach math support while working collaboratively with the middle school department chair and members of the Mathematics department and cluster teams to support student learning and growth.
  • Math Support Class provides students an opportunity for repeated practice, pre-teaching, re-teaching and/or explicit teaching of essential math concepts and skills.
  • This additional math course allows students to address any areas of need and gain critical support on topics students are learning in their grade level math course.
  • Groups are small, and instruction is targeted toward the unique individual needs of the student.
  • Students are identified for Math Support using MCAS, in-class assessment data, and teacher recommendation.
