The Bank Street School for Children is seeking an innovative Math/Science Teacher for the Upper School who will primarily teach 5th grade students. This role combines subject-area instruction with homeroom responsibilities, where serving as a co-advisor builds community and attends to the social-emotional development of students. Grade-level homeroom advisors engage in social-emotional support, executive function coaching, close collaboration with a homeroom co-advisor, and regular communication with families. We seek an educator with a Master’s degree and at least three years of experience teaching upper elementary or middle school students. Experience with student-centered math and science curricula and working collaboratively in a progressive school that values social justice and equity work is preferred. The ideal candidate will be excited about working with 10 and 11-year-olds in a hands-on, inquiry-based learning environment. Overview of Curriculum: Our 5th grade math program focuses on a study of arithmetic, rational numbers, decimals, statistics, problem solving, and geometry. Our science curriculum focuses on force, motion, and simple machines, exploring variables as a function of experimental design, science expo (students work in groups to design experiments), and we end the year with a geology study.
