Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS)
  • Demonstrated content knowledge (e.g., degree in content area and/or Praxis)
  • Strong instructional skills and classroom management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Successful completion of ETS Praxis II (content area)
  • Valid teaching credential
  • Degree in the relevant content area
  • Experience working with historically underserved student populations
  • Demonstrated student academic growth and/or achievement in a prior role
  • 3+ years of successful teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Classroom Instruction & Student Engagement (70%)
  • Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines that are aligned with the school’s overall vision
  • Develop and implement curricula and activities to meet academic standards
  • Thoughtfully plan daily lessons and implement specific strategies to meet the needs of all students, providing extra support, enrichment, or variation of work when necessary
  • Develops instructional plans that are engaging, rigorous and ensure all students achieve mastery of the stated learning objectives
  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge
  • Design and implement assessments that measure progress towards academic standards and diagnose areas of student misunderstanding
  • Lessons and assignments are rigorous and demand that students think critically.
  • Use assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices
  • Consistently use assessment data to drive instruction and plan activities.
  • Be accountable for students’ academic growth and increase each individual student’s achievement
  • Create a positive, achievement-oriented learning environment
  • Establishes high academic and behavior expectations for every student
  • Fosters respectful interactions between and among students and staff.
  • Collaborate and engage with peers and administrators to improve instructional practice and achieve student learning goals.
  • Provide additional instruction and support to students outside of content area to achieve school-wide goals and address student needs

  • Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, professional development and school-wide functions
  • Invest parents and families in their children’s academic success through regular communication
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
  • Public Policy & Fellowship Integration (20%)
  • Work with the Public Policy Manager to implement high-quality instruction in the Mathematics course, ensuring alignment with Chavez’s mission and academic standards.
  • Facilitate meaningful discussions and analysis of public policy topics, helping students connect their research to real-world issues.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of public policy events, including Symposium, Professionalism Day, and other school-wide initiatives, that enhance student learning and presentation skills.
  • Collaborate with the Public Policy Manager to ensure all students are placed in appropriate fellowship experiences that align with their research interests and career aspirations.
  • Monitor student progress in fellowships, providing academic support and reflection opportunities to ensure a meaningful learning experience.
  • Curriculum Development & School-Wide Collaboration (10%)
  • Engage in consistent reflection and review of curriculum and programs to best meet Chavez’s annual goals and mission.
  • Analyze classroom data and student work to drive continuous improvement and celebrate academic growth.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, professional development sessions, and team meetings, contributing to Chavez Schools’ vision for teaching excellence.
  • Participate in collaborative curriculum development, ensuring the Mathematics program evolves to meet the changing needs of students and the academic community.
  • Support the school’s overall enrollment and reenrollment efforts, including participation in recruitment, family engagement, and school events.
