About The Position

As a VASMN:Teacher, Life Skills, you will play a vital role in the Vassar-Main department of Aurora Public Schools Adams-Arapahoe 28J. Your primary focus will be on providing specialized instruction and support to students with autism and significant support needs, ensuring they receive the necessary tools and guidance to thrive academically and socially. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field, with a specialization in Special Education or Autism Spectrum Disorders.
  • Valid teaching certification or license to teach in the state, with an endorsement in Special Education.
  • Experience working with students with autism and significant support needs, preferably in a center-based classroom setting.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based instructional strategies and behavior management techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and parents.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Proficiency in using technology for instructional purposes and data collection.
  • A passion for inclusive education and a commitment to promoting student success.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • A positive and patient attitude, with a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of students.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to the unique needs of students with autism and significant support requirements.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement and participation.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including special education professionals, to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Assess student progress and provide regular feedback to parents/guardians and the school administration.
  • Foster a culture of respect, empathy, and understanding among students, promoting social-emotional learning and positive behavior.
  • Utilize various teaching strategies and adaptive technologies to accommodate diverse learning styles and needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by the school district and state regulations.
  • Attend professional development workshops and training sessions to stay updated with best practices in special education.
  • Build strong relationships with students, creating a safe and supportive classroom atmosphere.
