About The Position

This position involves providing professional leadership within the school, community, and education profession to enhance student learning and support district and state initiatives. The role requires demonstrating strong content knowledge in assigned disciplines and their applications, as well as planning, implementing, and assessing instruction to develop students' abilities in teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and knowledge integration. Key responsibilities include assessing student learning using various tools, communicating results to stakeholders, and using assessments to design appropriate instructional activities. The teacher is expected to create a safe and supportive learning climate, evaluate teaching effectiveness based on student achievement, and utilize technology for instruction, data management, professional growth, communication, and research. The role also entails participating in required training, supervising students, securing school and community resources, and maintaining regular communication with parents. Adherence to school, district, state, and federal policies is crucial. The teacher will participate in school-related activities, maintain necessary records, and provide instruction consistent with curriculum requirements and national teacher standards. Additionally, the position involves serving on the ARC (Admissions and Release Committee) for special education students, assisting with IEP development and evaluation, and performing student health services as directed after appropriate training. Other tasks may be assigned by the Principal, program supervisor, or Superintendent.

Requirements

  • Kentucky Certificate with proper endorsements in Special Education.
  • Such additional qualifications as the Superintendent or Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Provides professional leadership within the school, community, and education profession to improve student learning as well as support district and state initiatives.
  • Demonstrates content knowledge within assigned discipline(s) or program and in applications to other disciplines.
  • Plans, implements and assesses instruction designed to develop students abilities to use team members, think and solve problems and integrate knowledge.
  • Assesses student learning using a variety of tools consistent with Kentucky’s Assessment Program; communicates results to students, parents and staff making referrals for extra services as necessary, uses assessment results to design appropriate instructional activities.
  • Creates a learning climate that supports student achievement and safety.
  • Evaluates teaching effectiveness based on student achievement in relation to student attainment of Kentucky’s learning goals.
  • Uses technology to support instruction; access and manipulate data; enhance professional growth and productivity; communicate and collaborate with colleagues, parents and the community; and conduct research/solve problems.
  • Participates in required training relative to teaching assignments, supervisor approved professional growth plan, school/district initiatives, or as directed by the Principal.
  • Supervises students to ensure student safety.
  • Secures and makes use of school and community resources.
  • Communicates regularly with parents and guardians of students.
  • Adheres to school, district, state and federal policies, regulations and laws.
  • Participates in school-related activities, programs or meetings as assigned by the Principal and/ or the Program Director.
  • Maintains a variety of records as required by school district policies, state and federal law or as assigned by the Principal, and / or Program Director.
  • Provides instruction specific to teaching assignment consistent with school and district program requirements or curriculum, Kentucky’s Core Content for Assessment and Program of Studies and national teacher standards.
  • Serves as a member of the ARC (Admissions and Release Committee) in determining eligibility of students for special education programs; assists in development, implementation, monitoring and evaluating of IEP (Individual Education Plan).
  • Provides and performs student health services as directed by Supervisor after receiving appropriate training as required by law.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal, program supervisor or the Superintendent.
