About The Position

Plans, supervises and implements a daily program of the SFCC Kids Campus for young children. Coach practicum students and apprenticeships in the Early Childhood Education program in collaboration with the Program Director, APRENDE Early Childhood Teacher Apprenticeship Program Manager, and Early Childhood Education Faculty. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.

  • TEACHER I High School Diploma or equivalent 29 Early Childhood Credits (equivalent to NM Professional Certificate) 1 year of experience in an early childhood setting
  • TEACHER II Associate’s degree in Early Childhood or closely related field Two (2) years of experience in an early childhood setting
  • TEACHER III Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Three (3) years experience in an early childhood setting OR Unrelated Bachelor's degree Early Childhood Teaching License Three (3) years experience in an early childhood setting OR Unrelated Bachelor's degree + AA in Early Childhood Three (3) years experience in an early childhood setting
  • TEACHER IV Master’s degree in Early Childhood or a closely related degree Three (3) years experience in an early childhood setting OR Unrelated Master’s degree + Early Childhood Teaching License Three (3) years experience in an early childhood setting OR Unrelated Master’s degree + AA in Early Childhood Three (3) years of experience in an early childhood setting
  • Required to successfully pass all required background checks, including those conducted by ECECD and Santa Fe Community College prior to employment and periodically thereafter in accordance with regulatory and institutional requirements.
  • Must possess and maintain current Pediatric Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Pediatric First Aid certifications. New hires are required to obtain both certifications and any required ECECD trainings within ninety (90) days of hire and renew them on or before their expiration date.
  • Teachers are required to be actively enrolled and taking a minimum of 3 credit hours toward their AA in Early Childhood each semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer) to remain in compliance with program and accreditation expectations.
  • For PreK Classrooms: Teachers are required to be actively enrolled and taking a minimum of 6 credit hours toward their BA in Early Childhood each semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer) to remain in compliance with the ECECD NM PreK and accreditation expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes the indoor and outdoor environment and participates in the selection of materials in all content development areas to stimulate and sustain exploration, experimentation, discovery and conceptual learning to achieve desired outcomes both indoors and outdoors.
  • Incorporates content, concepts, and activities that foster social, emotional, physical, language and cognitive development.
  • Creates a positive emotional climate in the classroom that fosters children’s emotional well-being and demonstrates respect for each child.
  • Establishes and maintains regular communication (verbal and written) with families regarding children’s activities, developmental milestones, shared care-giving issues, and other information that affects children’s well-being and development.
  • Plans and participates in home visits; parent-teacher conferences and monthly family events.
  • Executes assessment methods to assist in the identification of children’s needs and interests and to improve curriculum, the learning environment, and teaching practice to support learning outcomes.
  • Coach practicum and apprenticeships students according to guidelines from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), APRENDE Early Childhood Teacher Apprenticeship Program, and SFCC’s Early Childhood Associates Program.
  • Opens and closes the classroom at the end of the day in accordance with set procedures.
  • Attends training and completes coursework based on specific needs of the center as well as accreditation requirements.
  • Must demonstrate on-going strong leadership skills, including modeling best practices in early childhood education; providing guidance and support to Teacher Assistants, Practicum Students, Apprenticeships, and peers; taking initiative in classroom planning, supervision, and problem-solving; maintaining clear and professional communication with families and administration; and contributing to a collaborative, accountable team culture in alignment with NAEYC, CACFP, and ECECD standards.
