About The Position

Itinerant Special Education (SPED) Float Teachers work with students with disabilities. They adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects to students with mild to moderate disabilities. They also teach basic skills to students with severe disabilities. This position requires an ability and willingness to work as a float teacher, and this position requires frequent travel throughout the district.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education is required
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license.
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible within various job duties and assignments
  • Position requires frequent travel throughout the district
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree is preferred
  • Experience working with students with disabilities who represent the diversity of the District school community is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Help all students develop competence and confidence simultaneously through a balance of acquiring basic skills and developing conceptual understanding.
  • Provide instruction based on the students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Monitor, supervise, coordinate and enforce rule of conduct and behavior for assigned students, and reinforce positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
  • Observes, evaluates, reports and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, related service providers, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems.
  • Prepare educational course outlines, objectives and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
  • Present subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
  • May participate in extra-duty activities as outlined in the teachers' collective bargaining agreement (this is for coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, etc. for Dept. of Labor laws).
