About The Position

Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) is seeking an exceptional High School Chemistry/Physics and English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher to join our vibrant community of educators, students, and stakeholders. This position offers a unique opportunity for teachers who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of students, particularly those who require additional support in their English language acquisition. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the school principal and/or appropriate supervisor to plan and deliver effective ESL instruction to students identified as needing support based on the district's annual English Language Proficiency assessment. The ESL Teacher will play a crucial role in accelerating the learning and acquisition of Academic English through the integration of academic content from various subjects, including math, language arts, science, and social studies. This approach is designed to help students achieve academic success and meet classroom expectations. The teacher will also be responsible for implementing all district Multilingual Learner (MLL) procedures and serving as a resource for information regarding students from diverse language backgrounds. PPSD serves approximately 22,000 students across 37 elementary, middle, and high schools, with around 55% of students coming from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Our student body represents a rich tapestry of cultures, speaking 55 different languages and hailing from 91 countries of origin. In this environment, teachers and leaders are committed to setting high expectations for academic achievement, providing equal access to differentiated instruction, and striving to close the achievement and opportunity gap among historically marginalized subgroups. PPSD is an ideal workplace for those who value creativity, ingenuity, and respect for their professional credentials and abilities as educators.
