Teacher Health - Grades K-5

About the position

The position is for a Teacher of Health at Mountain Park Elementary, focusing on grades K-5. The role requires a commitment to providing appropriate learning experiences based on the district's Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. The teacher will create an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students. The position is full-time, with standard hours of 40 per week, and is scheduled for 190 days per year.

Responsibilities

• Plan for appropriate learning experiences for students based on the district AKS curriculum.
• Demonstrate command of the school subject being taught.
• Develop and prioritize short and long-term instructional objectives based on district AKS curriculum.
• Evaluate, select, and modify resources and activities.
• Provide initial focus for the lesson and communicate specific learning objectives to students.
• Organize content for presentation of the lesson.
• Utilize scientifically researched effective instructional strategies.
• Provide formative and summative assessments that measure student progress and achievement.
• Organize the learning environment to maximize student time on task.
• Maintain behavior that is conducive to learning.
• Participate in professional growth and professional learning activities.
• Maintain professional responsibilities and act as a role model.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Meets Georgia certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
• Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from a PSC approved college or university.
• Previous teaching experience preferred.
• Knowledge of GCPS AKS curriculum and effective instructional practices.
• Ability to understand the teaching/learning process and infuse technology into instruction.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
