About The Position

Provides supplemental language instruction to English Language Learners (ELL) using appropriate learning activities and strategies, with a primary focus on beginner through intermediate language level students. Provides supplemental instruction and diagnostic assessment that enables students to develop competencies and skills for linguistic and academic success. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate with required endorsements
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in English as a Second Language or Bilingual
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
  • Knowledge of core academic subject(s) assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Knowledge of reading, writing, and spelling instructional strategies
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and use student data
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage EB students in the learning process; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and professional support staff to ensure the individual needs of students are being addressed through supplemental services.
  • Evaluate, monitor and document student progress in English language acquisition for program placement, recommendation of state assessments for EB students and program continuation.
  • Follow state, federal, and local guidelines established for English as Second Language program.
  • Collaborate with teacher of record and other campus staff to ensure appropriate supplemental services are provided.
  • Instruct EB at-risk students in small group and large group settings 100% of school day.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Consult District and outside resource individuals regarding education, social, medical, and personal needs of students.
  • Be a positive role model for students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Serve as the teacher of record in the assigned content area for EB students at all language proficiency levels as determined by the Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC).
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with State, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile, maintain, file, and secure all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
