The English Learner (EL) Teacher at Allenbrook Elementary plays a pivotal role in supporting the instructional process by serving as the EL instructional leader. This position is specifically responsible for implementing the school-wide Language Instruction Educational Plan (LIEP) for all identified English Learners. The EL teacher is tasked with developing lesson plans and delivering both group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines. Collaboration with other teachers, professional staff, and administrators is essential to address instructional and classroom needs effectively. The EL teacher also provides leadership in the design, revision, and implementation of the EL curriculum to meet Federal, State, and District goals for English Learners. This role requires a commitment to delivering highly focused, rigorous, and innovative EL instruction, as well as providing high-quality training to enhance existing academic integrated content and language instruction for teachers at their respective schools. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the EL teacher establishes and maintains a school-based LIEP instructional schedule and service delivery for English Learners. They work closely with principals and classroom teachers to incorporate learner objectives that align with the subject matter, academic abilities, and diverse learning needs of EL students. Participation in the school Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) team is crucial to ensure appropriate instructional decisions are made to maximize support and achievement for ELs. The EL teacher also recommends instructional strategies and accommodations for students and classroom teachers, supports scheduling conferences between teachers and parents, and helps staff understand EL policies and procedures through training. The EL teacher fosters strong school-home relations, communicates effectively, and possesses a broad knowledge of curriculum content and EL teaching strategies. They are expected to research innovative EL programs and evidence-based strategies, utilize data to improve programming, and create a culture of effectiveness by setting high standards and expectations for all students. Instructional methods may include lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and the use of technology to engage students and help them achieve learning objectives. The EL teacher adapts teaching methods and materials to meet the varying needs and interests of students, including those with disabilities and different English proficiency levels. Participation in school management and professional development activities is also a key aspect of this role, along with the ability to inspire trust and model high standards of integrity and ethical behavior.
