About The Position

Identifies ECE-5th grade students in need of gifted and talented services according to state and district guidelines. Develops and implements appropriate and meaningful gifted education services in the school community that provide academic and affective (social/emotional) support for gifted students.

Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field required.
  • A Master's Degree is only required for Concurrent Enrollment positions.
  • Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license.
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and monitors Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs) to provide academic and affective (social/emotional) support for identified gifted students.
  • Consults with classroom teachers and provides gifted education-related staff development targeted around school needs based on student, family and staff feedback.
  • Provides staff development on strategies and appropriate materials to differentiate the curriculum and challenge gifted learners.
  • Participates and supports in the school's Mulit-tiered system of supports (MTSS) process as it relates to the support of gifted and advanced students.
  • Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
  • Monitors, supervises, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students; reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
  • Observes, evaluates, reports, and records student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and prepares student, attendance, and activity reports as required by administrators.
  • Establishes and communicates to students clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects; provides advanced instruction to students individually and in groups (caseload and FTE permitting), using various teaching methods and technology and adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
  • Prepares, administers, and provides reports to families and teachers regarding student performance on whole grade universal screening assessments and individual assessments related to gifted identification; communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve student behavioral and academic problems and to coordinate instructional efforts, especially in regard to twice exceptional students.
  • Follows Exceptional Children's Education Act (ECEA) rules and district guidance for identification of gifted and talented students and maintains accurate records of students in need of service.
  • May participate in extra-duty activities such as coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, as outlined in the Teachers’ Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with Department of Labor regulations.
