About The Position

This position teacher is responsible for supporting students in our system that qualify for English Learner support ensuring academic learning is accessible to students whose dominant language is one other than English; is responsible for accountable to the building administrators and program director for interpreting and executing the responsibilities herein, in addition to any other responsibilities that are assigned; and will maintain contact with parents, community organizations, and other agencies to promote understanding of the objectives of the program and the school district.

Requirements

  • Valid Washington State Teacher certificate with English Language Learner or English as a Second Language endorsement required
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Common Core Standards required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
  • Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
  • I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
  • Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date

Nice To Haves

  • Additional Elementary Education endorsement preferred
  • Special experience and/or training in working with ELL students and peer coaching or co-teaching is preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in and evidence of continued personal and professional growth
  • Successful teaching experience at appropriate grade level preferred
  • Possess general knowledge and varied experience
  • Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred
  • Ability to articulate and implement Common Core State Standards requirements

Responsibilities

  • Deliver appropriate instruction to help English Learners successfully meet academic standards in English Language Arts
  • Foster English language acquisition, enhance academic progress, and build students’ self-esteem in their EL classroom and the school as a whole.
  • Confer with teachers, administrators, support staff and/or parents to determine language and academic needs of ELL students
  • Administer formal or informal tests to further determine needs of students
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
  • Work cooperatively with others in achieving common goals supporting Professional Learning Communities
  • Contribute to the orderly development and conduct of program learning activities and curriculum
  • Provide differentiated instruction (Sheltered Instruction) for all students including special education and ELL
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and work within grade-level classrooms to assist ELL students in accessing content learning
  • Develop individualized academic programs designed to meet the specific needs of select ELL students
  • Implement the individualized programs by working with small groups of students to improve their language skills and academic performance
  • Maintain records of students’ progress
  • Assist in orienting, training, and assigning paraprofessionals to work with ELL students
  • Monitor student activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment
  • Report incidents (child abuse, fights, substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to education code and district and school policies
  • Provide an exceptional educational experience to all students; communicate an enthusiasm for learning
  • Utilize district adopted curriculum to guide instruction
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment for learning
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours
  • Professionally interact with students, staff, and public
  • Establish and maintain professional contacts with students
  • Comply with all district policies and procedures
  • Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct
  • Perform related duties as assigned
