About The Position

The Teacher Education Department in the School of Education at the University of San Francisco is seeking an adjunct instructor to teach the course listed below. Positions are available Summer 2025 semester. This position will be a hybrid teaching position, with classes held in person at the Santa Rosa Junior College. The USF Teacher Education program (TED) prepares strong, dedicated, and creative teachers for today’s increasingly diverse schools. The teachers we graduate are reflective practitioners who foster intellectual growth, holistic development, and multicultural democratic community in their classrooms and schools. They strive to provide their students – especially those most vulnerable to systemic injustices – an equitable, responsive, and empowering education. Our graduates develop a vision informed by principles and theories of education, and an array of pedagogical and conceptual tools grounded in classroom practice. At the same time, they understand the challenges and complexities of teaching, especially within urban contexts.

Requirements

  • Earned master's degree in education.
  • K-12 teaching experience.
  • Relevant experience in teaching literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the course TEC 621 - Multiple Subject Curriculum and Instruction: Early Literacy.
  • Focus on theoretical principles, relevant curriculum, and pedagogical strategies for developing a balanced comprehensive literacy program.
  • Address the full range of learners in grades PK-3, including reading, writing, listening, speaking, and critical literacy.
  • Cover topics such as emergent literacy, word analysis, vocabulary development, comprehension strategies, and the use of digital resources.
  • Provide experience in PK-3 literacy assessment and planning instruction based on students’ strengths and needs.
