The Teacher Early Childhood SPED position at Lawrence Public Schools involves providing an effective program of instruction tailored to the needs and capabilities of individual students or groups.   • Builds instruction upon previously learned materials.
  • Uses a variety of teaching materials and techniques as appropriate for the content area.
  • Provides for regular assessment of student/adult needs and progress.
  • Provides for appropriate re-teaching, adaptation, and/or extensions if needed.
  • Prepares for assigned classes and can show evidence of such preparation.
  • Demonstrates effective skills in reading, writing, math, and speaking as necessary for assignment.
  • Implements the district's written curriculum and the state and district assessment program.
  • Works with other members of the staff in planning building or district curriculum, instructional goals, objectives, methods, and assessments.
  • Attends and participates in assigned staff/team meetings.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Establishes and maintains communications with students, parents, colleagues and others as related to assignment.
  • Maintains professional and ethical standards.
  • Upholds and enforces school rules, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Maintains state certification/licensure standards for teachers in the field for which he/she is assigned.
  • Kansas Teaching Certificate/License with appropriate SPED endorsement required.
  • Must meet 'Highly qualified' status according to KSDE and federal regulations.
  • Ability to maintain licensure (certification) in the state of Kansas.
  • Ability to speak clearly and audibly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical manner.
  • Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers.
  • Willingness and ability to pursue appropriate SPED endorsement.
  • Current knowledge of special education laws and regulations.
  • Experience in developing Individual Education Plans.
  • $1,800 special education services stipend.
  • Tuition reimbursement of up to $2,000 per year for obtaining special education licensure.
