About The Position

An employee in this class provides direct instruction to students. A wide variety of tasks are performed in the teaching-learning process for students, the primary one being to help students learn the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible adults. A teacher performs his/her duties under the supervision of, and reports to, the principal.

Requirements

  • Degree in related area(s) Carpentry; Construction Management; Building Construction, Electrician, Electrical Trades, HVAC, Plumbing or Work Experience
  • 2 years within past 5 years with Bachelor’s Degree
  • 4 years within past 8 years Associate Degree
  • 6 years within the past 10 years with High School Diploma
  • Example of Work Experience: Construction industry with demonstrated experience in the carpentry, electrical, and/or masonry fields, construction manager, electrician, mason, masonry installer, HVAC Technician, Plumber.
  • OSHA 10-Hour SafetyConstruction Credential required prior to teaching.
  • Valid N.C. teaching license/certification, or (74026) license.
  • Once hired the teacher must be trained as an NCCER Certified Instructor.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals consistent with the duties of this position
  • Ability to compose and write routine reports consistent with the duties of this position
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administrators, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general trade and industrial periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Familiarity with basic computer operation and software.
  • Ability to learn various computer operations required for management of student information and integration of technology in classroom instruction.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skills in oral and written communication.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a CTE Teacher is preferred but not required.
  • Serving as an advisor for Career-Technical Student Organizations is strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches District approved curriculum
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Plans a program of study, employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students
  • Assists in diagnosing the learning disabilities of students, with the assistance of district specialists
  • Evaluates students' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day
