Requirements

  • 2 or more years of formal experience in child care setting is required.
  • 2 years teaching experience in a child care center preferred.
  • 2 years of formal Early Childhood courses required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education is preferred.
  • BA in Child Development, Elementary Education or related fields, with a minimum of 2 years practical experience in an acceptable preschool.
  • CDA (Child Development Credential) or CCP (ChildCare Professional Certificate) or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises children, indoors and outdoors, providing positive conflict resolution techniques according to NAEYC standards.
  • Participates in all developmentally appropriate teacher directed activities (circle time and learning centers).
  • Plans, prepares, supervises and carries out age appropriate activities and uses time appropriately.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development of the specific age group he/she teaches.
  • Ensures open, positive and effective communication with administration, staff members, parents and all Virtua clientele, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Handles and reports all parent and staff concerns that are within their control.
  • Models professional demeanor while effectively supervising and utilizing the supporting staff within their classroom.
  • Maintains cleanliness and upkeep of classroom, playground and center.
