The Campus School at Boston College is a private, publicly funded special education day school located within the Lynch School of Education and Human Development. This institution is dedicated to educating students aged 3-22 who have extensive support needs, including complex medical requirements. The Teacher Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the special education teacher by managing appropriate educational, therapeutic, and health care services tailored to each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP). This position is essential in ensuring that students receive the necessary support to thrive in their educational environment. The Teacher Assistant will be responsible for assisting the special education teacher in implementing the IEPs for each student. This includes attending transdisciplinary team meetings and relevant in-service trainings to stay informed about the best practices in special education. The role requires following daily classroom schedules and specific programs for both group and individual activities as directed by the special education teacher. Additionally, the Teacher Assistant will help maintain the organization of classroom and therapeutic supplies and equipment, ensuring that the learning environment is conducive to the students' needs. In this position, the Teacher Assistant will also accompany students to therapy sessions as needed and will be expected to communicate effectively with students, staff, and administration. Under the guidance of the special education teacher and therapists, the Teacher Assistant will share in teaching responsibilities and assist in the development of curriculum materials. Observing classroom settings that cater to a diverse age range of students, the Teacher Assistant will also support students in attending to their personal care needs, thereby contributing to the overall mission of the Campus School at Boston College.
