About The Position

The Kindergarten Assistant will assist the classroom teacher in the supervision of students and perform other duties as prescribed by the classroom teacher and/or principal.

Requirements

The ability to make accurate tabulations and computations
The ability to readily understand and carry out directions, both oral and written
The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form
The ability to work independently with minimal supervision
The ability to develop an effective working relationship with staff, students, parents and the community
Creative thinking, problem solving skills and the ability to reinforce information one on one and to small groups
Must have an understanding of child development and the ability to perform duties with an awareness of school department requirements and policies
Such as may be gained through graduation from a senior high school or equivalent (GED)
A minimum of two years college course work (60 credits) required in the field of early childhood, elementary or special education or an Associates Degree in a program specifically in the area of teacher assistant
Resume must be submitted by all applicants
pursuant to Article V of the WISE contract, this position is being filled on a temporary basis for the remainder of the school year. The successful candidate will need to attend a job fair in August to secure a position for the next school year.

Nice To Haves

Completion of a RIDE approved TA Training Course suggested.
One year related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepare, distribute and display materials as directed by the teacher.
Meet the bus and assists children into the classroom.
At the direction of the teacher, the assistant will assist in maintaining order during instruction period.
Take children to lavatory and assist with toileting needs as necessary.
Escort children to and from various rooms as necessary and assist in those activities where necessary.
Maintain records as required by the teacher.
Assist with games, walks, and exercises.
Perform other activities as directed by the classroom teacher.
Responds to students needs as necessary.
Other related duties as required.
