About The Position
The School for Community Learning is a small, independent, Pre-K-8 school in Indianapolis that was founded by parents and teachers. We teach children to use their hearts, minds, and voices to learn about and impact their school, community and world. Students learn in multi-age classrooms through discipline-based literacy and numeracy workshops and through our emphasis on project-based learning. School for Community Learning students engage in critical, creative, and reflective thinking. School for Community Learning is committed to teaching the whole child and developing socially conscious citizens that can work collaboratively, lead others, and contribute to the greater good. We are seeking to hire a Teaching Assistant for the 3rd-8th grade. This individual should believe strongly in our mission, vision and core beliefs.
Requirements
- Prior experience working or volunteering within an educational or childcare setting required.
- Passion for working with elementary and middle school-age students.
- Passion for community engagement and social advocacy.
- Desire to work in a non-traditional, small school environment.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Able to collaborate with colleagues as well as work independently; able to be flexible.

Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's Degree or some college preferred; degree work related to education or child development preferred.
Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning in and out of the classroom.
- Adult on duty for recess and lunch.
- Serve as a substitute teacher when classroom teacher is out.
- Provide instruction in small group and one-on-one settings.
- Assist teacher in daily classroom routines (ex: attendance).
