About The Position

The Special Education Teaching Assistant position at Madison County Schools is designed to support students with special needs under the supervision of a certified teacher. The primary purpose of this role is to work with individual students or small groups, assisting them in their educational journey by modeling necessary skills and following specific educational and behavioral plans. The assistant will help students develop appropriate behaviors and interactions, while also addressing any special health care needs they may have. This position encompasses a variety of assignments, including classroom support, lunchroom supervision, and playground activities, ensuring a well-rounded support system for students. In this role, the assistant will be responsible for reinforcing skills taught by the teacher in areas such as language, mathematics, reading, and social skills. This includes monitoring students' written assignments, providing immediate re-teaching when misunderstandings occur, and engaging with students in group activities like reading sessions and vocabulary games. The assistant will also support the classroom teacher in preparing materials, supervising independent study, and assisting with instructional planning. Additionally, the assistant will participate in professional development activities to enhance their skills and effectiveness in the classroom. The position requires a commitment to maintaining confidentiality regarding all aspects of work with special education children and collaborating effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and students. The assistant will also be expected to demonstrate flexibility in their schedule and activities throughout the day, contributing positively to the team approach within the school environment.
