About The Position

The Teacher Assistant at Sugar Loaf Elementary School plays a crucial role in supporting the lead teacher by performing various technical and clerical tasks. This position involves providing one-on-one assistance to students, monitoring their behavior, and helping maintain a disciplined and safe classroom environment. The Teacher Assistant is responsible for reinforcing instruction, preparing materials, and supervising students in both instructional and non-instructional settings.

Requirements

• Associate Degree or 48 semester hours towards an associate degree, preferred.
• Valid NC state driver's license.
• Eligibility to obtain a CDL with Passenger(P) and School Bus(S) endorsements.

Responsibilities

• Assists teacher with executing instruction and evaluating its effectiveness.
• Constantly monitors the safety and well-being of students.
• Monitors student behavior and helps maintain discipline in the classroom; assists with crisis prevention.
• Assists students with learning; reinforces and clarifies instruction; provides one-on-one assistance as needed.
• Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
• Praises and reinforces achievement of students; promotes self-esteem.
• Scores students' work as instructed by teacher.
• Prepares visual aids and duplicates materials.
• Distributes and collects instructional material and reorganizes materials at the end of the day.
• Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.
• Performs general housekeeping duties in maintaining an orderly classroom.
• Serves as a proctor during testing.
• Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom, including activities involving school transportation.
• Maintains reports and records as assigned by teacher.
