About The Position

The Teachers Assistant will be responsible for fostering the intellectual and social development of children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. The Teachers Assistant will be required to work with children between the ages of 6 weeks – 5 developing proficiency and literacy in communication with the Osage language, while teaching core skills and objectives to mastery as prescribed by national standards. Additionally students cultivate understanding and appreciation of Osage culture, inspiring self- esteem and strengthening attitudes among students and their community. The Teachers Assistant operates within the framework of lesson plans developed and administered by the Headmaster and Osage Nation Curriculum Committee and teaches those plans to the entire class, individually to students or in small groups, tracks student progress and presents the information to parents.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Development or related field preferred or actively working toward this degree
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) certification or related field required or working toward completion within eight (8) months
  • Osage language proficiency required and/or actively attending Osage language classes
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • At least one year of experience in child care atmosphere
  • Must have a food handlers permit within four (4) weeks of hire
  • Must have initial TB screening
  • Must have initial physical (and yearly)
  • Must have a current CPR and First Aid certificate (pediatric/to Adult)
  • Must be able to acquire a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Oklahoma School Bus Driver’s license (OSBDL) within 6 months
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stoop, bend and lift on a daily basis
  • Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics
  • Requires a high level of problem solving skills
  • Requires willingness and ability to learn new skills, including travel to conferences and training sessions
  • Requires ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs
  • Requires good interpersonal communication and team work skills
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting
  • Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing
