About The Position

Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a community of high-performing public schools that utilizes a comprehensive approach to prepare students from preschool through high school for success in college and in life. Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy students represent the neighborhood of MacArthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles, a community that is one of the most under-resourced and densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Currently, CNCA has eight campuses that serve over 3,500 students from pre-K through 12th grade. The Opportunity Under the supervision of School Leadership and a classroom teacher, the Teacher Assistant – Art & Dance supports CNCA students by supporting instruction and performing supplemental activities which encourage students to meet their educational goals.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or a minimum of 48 semester units of college coursework (and/or have passed the CBEST)
  • Bilingual (oral & written) Spanish/English required
  • Ability to withstand significant physical demands in the areas of standing, walking, running, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, and pushing
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with students
  • Demonstrated ability to positively work with students, staff & parents

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Art and Dance teachers in performing specific duties as assigned
  • Assist the Arts and Dance teachers in creating an environment that is conductive to learning as appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
  • Set up equipment for art and dance activities
  • Encourage safety habits in all activities
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Assist in the maintenance and storage of supplies and equipment
  • In collaboration with the classroom teachers, assist in executing lesson plans for students
  • Regularly report on student progress, identifying strengths and needs to assist the team in making program modifications for students
  • Carry out tasks assigned by the teachers for students (including filing, paperwork, photocopying, working with small groups of students, and one-on-one tutoring)
  • Assist in maintenance of student records of attendance and achievement
  • Collaborate with other teachers to meet the needs of individual students
  • Support in creating a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Work closely with students and their families to promote personal growth and success
  • Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with grade level team, administrators, and service providers as necessary
  • Supervise students during recess and lunch time
  • Other duties as assigned
