About The Position

Assist the Head Choir Director with managing the choir program at assigned campus. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth and provide an opportunity to participate in extracurricular band. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate in All Level Music
  • Demonstrated competency in instrumental music
  • Current automated external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience

Responsibilities

  • Model KISD core organizational beliefs and values; perform duties effectively and efficiently for the purpose of supporting and contributing to high student achievement.
  • Provide program support and service delivery; communicate effectively within and across teams and participate in cross-functional work groups.
  • Maintain a commitment to the District mission; model District expectations through personal leadership and actively support the efforts of others to achieve District goals.
  • Assist with the instruction and leadership of choir students, conduct and lead the choir, provide musical guidance, conduct auditions, and guide students with achieving correct tone, pitch, rhythm, tempo, and harmony.
  • Assist with the performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student's eligibility to participate in choir.
  • Assist with the choir participation at extracurricular events including concerts and UIL.
  • Assist with the coordination of suitable choir formations, rehearsals, competitions, routines, and performances.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Work cooperatively with Special Education Teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to District requirements.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for in-person learning that fulfill the requirements of District's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with State, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile, maintain, file, and secure all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
