About The Position

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, musical, and social growth. Assist the assigned campus head band director with the development of the band program and work cooperatively with CSISD intermediate, middle school, and high school band directors as well as other fine arts and campus teachers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Demonstrate competency in instrumental music
  • Current automatic external defibrillator (AED) certificate
  • Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing band
  • Ability to manage budget and personnel as designated
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • One year student teaching or approved internship and band directing experience

Nice To Haves

  • A thorough knowledge of technology related to the music classroom such as Finale, is important but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Instructional Strategies Direct instrumental performers, including but not limited to concert band, full orchestra, soloists, and various ensembles as directed by the head director and director of fine arts.
  • Direct the Non-Varsity Concert Band and compete in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest.
  • Establish performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
  • Actively promote retention in all district band programs.
  • Assist other directors at extracurricular events, including concerts, pep rallies, UIL Concert and Sight reading, and other various events and performances.
  • Develop and implement plans that fulfill the requirements of the district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other member of the staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs.
  • Student Growth and Development Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
  • Classroom Management and Organization Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting music, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Communication Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Professional Growth and Development Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Band Middle School Band Plan and prepare middle school instrumental performers.
  • Assist the head director with performance requirements, enforce academic requirements, and verify each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
  • Design and implement a concert band program that participates in all concerts including UIL Concert and Sight Reading.
  • Plan and prepare students for successful participation in the TMEA All District band.
  • Teach morning and afternoon sectionals in the spring or as directed by the head middle school director.
  • Plan and prepare students for a Solo and Ensemble contest.
  • Effectively communicate with band staff, parents and co-workers.
  • Assist in the maintaining and inventory of school instruments.
  • Actively participate in professional organizations such as TMEA.
  • Actively participate in various judging assignments through TMEA and other assigned events.
  • Have regular attendance and good punctuality.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

  • Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct for CSISD.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with parents.
  • Intermediate School Band: Assist the intermediate school director with teaching beginning band classes.
  • Teach one or more beginner band classes as directed by the Intermediate and MS Head Directors.
  • Assist the intermediate director with instrument interviews in the spring and all concerts.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • High School Band: Be available to assist the high school directors for summer band activities at both high schools.
  • Other Dependable performance requires reliable and dependable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
