About The Position

During the school day, the Teacher Assistant/Adult Assistant models appropriate behavior and provides support to students who have learning, emotional, and developmental challenges in dealing with their daily behavioral and social-emotional needs. Before or after school, the Teacher Assistant supports the classroom teacher.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One year working with children with special needs, learning, behavioral, emotional and/or developmental disabilities in a direct service capacity.
  • Behavior Management and Confidentiality Training required.
  • MS Office is helpful.
  • Strong Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to deal appropriately with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to de-escalate students in crisis and implement NCI as appropriate.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position. Proof of valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, evidence of state-mandated car insurance, and insurable driving record are required. While driving for work, should a need arise, the employee’s insurance is deemed primary and ECF’s coverage is secondary. Driving Disclaimer - Employees driving for company business must maintain a clean record and operate vehicles safely and responsibly. Company vehicles will be monitored and activity recorded. Violations of the driving policy may result in disciplinary action, including suspension of driving privileges, reassignment, or termination.
  • Provide evidence of a negative TB test initially and every three years thereafter.
  • Obtain and maintain Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NCI), First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Comply with ECF’s Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Ensure safe use and operation of tools and/or equipment.
  • Comply with ECF policies and procedures, including mandated reporting requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a positive learning environment that fosters students’ personal responsibility and participation in planning as appropriate.
  • Support the teacher’s maintenance of student records, including daily or weekly grading, test scores, field trip slips, parent contacts and conferences, behavioral check sheets, progress on behavioral goals, attendance records, incident reports, report cards, and other documentation as needed.
  • Take daily attendance in Gradelink.
  • Use PBIS to document behaviors Following the teacher’s instruction, circulate through the classroom checking students’ work and providing assistance in completing assignments.
  • Support the classroom team in the development/implementation/fulfillment of the students’ goals, IEP goals, and objectives, especially as they pertain to problem-solving and behavior. Provide active supervision during physical education class, sports, and other recreational activities. Assist in supervising social-recreational periods, nutrition, and lunch periods.
  • Under the teacher’s direction, set up the classroom, conduct online research, update bulletin boards, make copies, grade student work and record grades, and assemble student files.
  • Assist with individual students’ emotional/psychological needs.
  • Attend all required and mandated meetings as directed.
  • Participate in required trainings and implement the use of dispensing of medication, mandated reporting, behavior management, NCI, confidentiality/HIPAA, First Aid/CPR, etc.
  • Maintain professional dress code and appearance, demeanor, and boundaries.
  • Regular, reliable attendance.
  • Attend and participate in ECF Kayne Eras School in-service training sessions, staff meetings, weekly core and/or team meetings, programs and activities as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
