About The Position

Under direct supervision, the teacher aide will assist the classroom master teacher, lead teacher, and associate teachers by being actively involved in the supervision, care, and education of children. The teacher aide will accept instructions and follow through with assigned and self-initiated tasks of which the purpose is to provide primary care and support for children with a range of developmental needs.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled California State University Fullerton student in good academic standing
  • Minimum of 2 semesters experience in a setting in which the ability to implement the Children’s Center philosophy has been demonstrated
  • Must pass a pre-employment T.B. test prior to commencing work
  • Must fulfill responsibilities of a CA Mandated Reporter of Child Abuse
  • Must provide complete health screen within 30 days of employment
  • Must provide proof of immunization from measles, pertussis, and flu (Flu shot may be declined with written declaration)
  • Upon hire and with consent an employment history and criminal background investigation and fingerprint screening will be completed
  • Must complete: Bloodborne Pathogens Campus Health and Safety Requirements CSU’S Discrimination Harassment Prevention Program Data Security and FERPA Gender Equity and Title IX Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) within 30 days of hire
  • Must be able to lift, lower, push and pull loads ranging in weight from 5-35 lbs
  • Must be able to carry loads ranging from 5-35 lbs for distances up to 20ft

Responsibilities

  • Implement the Children’s Center philosophy of respect for the child and the importance of fostering independence in children.
  • Maintain awareness of children’s needs: physical, social, emotional, and cognitive, and attend to them appropriately and respectfully. Anticipate needs of induvial children or groups of children and take appropriate action to maintain safety, security, and opportunities for positive interactions.
  • Participate in activities, planned and free-flow, with the children
  • Support the program, schedule, routines, and activities specific to the classroom and yard areas
  • Set an example of appropriate adult behavior, including verbal behavior, in relation to children, for volunteers
  • Use non-authoritarian communication skills when listening, setting limits, and helping the children problem solve
  • Be constantly involved in either observing children’s behavior or interacting with them; write down anecdotal notes as needed, focus on the responsibilities of the job at all times
  • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe classroom and yard area environment
  • Follow safety procedures consistently. Learn concepts presented in monthly safety meetings
  • Attend and actively participate in mandatory staff trainings as assigned and team meetings
  • Actively participate in safety training including monthly evacuation drills
  • Convey written and verbal information from parents and to and from other staff when necessary
  • Provide toileting assistance, including diaper changes and helping children use the toilet
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with various A.S. and University departments as well as Children’s Center parents
  • Ensures all operations are conducted with safety of staff and customers as first priority, and in accordance with the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan and other safety policies.
  • Reports accidents to supervisor and reviews changes required to avoid reoccurrence.
  • Reports maintenance problems and/or broken and unsafe equipment to the appropriate party or supervisor immediately
