About The Position

Erie 1 BOCES is seeking compassionate and dedicated Personal Teacher Aides for the Northtowns Academy to support students with disabilities. The role involves working one-on-one with students under the direction of classroom teachers, assisting with daily activities, and contributing to a positive learning environment.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
• Four years of experience and knowledge in a particular field where specialized duties are involved, not necessarily in an aide role.
• An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of the above qualifications.
• Positive outlook, strong work ethic, and compassion.

Responsibilities

• Assist with classroom activities as directed by the teacher.
• Work with individual children as directed by a teacher.
• Assist children with arrival and departure involving coats, boots, and lunches.
• Help keep supplies and materials in order.
• Help prepare materials for student use.
• Clean up and put away materials after use.
• Change children's clothing and cleanse children, if necessary.
• Assist the teacher in implementing the classroom and/or individual student's behavior management program.
• Accompany a child when removal from a classroom is necessary or when the child must go to another part of the building.
• Assist in restraining students who may exhibit behaviors that are injurious to self or others.
• Assist and supervise games and free play, both indoors and outdoors.
• Assist the teacher in the implementation of activities that include feeding, toileting, and other activities of daily living.
• Lift and transport students in conjunction with daily living activities.
