About The Position

Scarsdale Middle School is continuously recruiting applicants to the position of Teacher Aide to support our instructional program. Scarsdale Middle School spans grades 6-8, and offers a rich and varied educational program to the high-achieving student population of approximately 1100 students. The school community boasts an accomplished faculty and staff along with an active, supportive parent body. Scarsdale Middle School focuses on the developmental needs of early adolescents and fosters a highly challenging, nurturing, and supportive intellectual environment. All Teacher Aide positions in the Scarsdale Public Schools are part-time civil-service positions classified under Westchester County Office of Human Resources. Whether working in a classroom, assisting a teacher, supervising lunch and recess, or working directly with individual students, the aide's work is an integral part of our school community. Given the diversity of assignments, the individual duties and responsibilities will vary from aide to aide. The particulars of any individual's specific assignment will be determined by the needs of the students, as primarily determined by the teacher, and the needs of the building and district.

Requirements

  • A high school or equivalency diploma.
  • Demonstration of interest in working with children.

Responsibilities

  • Works with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
  • Assists in classroom preparations and strategies for reinforcing instructional materials and skills according to individual student needs.
  • Assists with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
  • Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task.
  • Assists students in non-instructional areas, such as supervising the student lunch programs, bus duty, playground duty, corridor, study hall, and other related non-instructional areas.
  • Accompanies students on field trips for the purpose of assisting with supervision.
  • Constructs, copies and distributes educational materials as needed.
  • Assists students with special needs in all aspects of classroom instruction to maximize inclusion, learning, achievement of IEP objectives, etc.
  • Assists students with physical or mental disabilities with activities of daily living for the purpose of maximizing their ability to participate in school or learning activities.
  • Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper manner of assistance for all students, including those with disabilities or other special needs.

  • Pay range: $18.16 - $25.09/hour.
