About The Position

Scarsdale Public Schools is seeking teacher aide candidates to responsibly and respectfully support the school library program at one of our elementary schools. Our elementary schools spans grades K-5 with an approximate enrollment of 450 students. We offer rich and varied educational programs, along with an active, supportive parent body. Under the direct supervision of a certified staff member, the teacher aide will assist certified professional staff with students in the library to meet instructional goals and objectives, and to free certified professional employees from non-professional tasks in the library.

Requirements

• A high school or equivalency diploma.
• Demonstration of interest in working with children.
• Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel).
• Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others.
• Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required.
• Effective writing and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assists with library program preparations and implementation, as directed, including checking out books to young students.
• Consistent attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of basic computer operations.
• Ability to do repetitive tasks with speed and accuracy.
• Ability to sit and stand repeatedly throughout the day.

Benefits

• Part-time position with approximate hours of 5 hours/day (Monday-Friday).
• Pay range of $17.00 - $25.00 per hour.
