The Teacher/Advocate position at South Coast Head Start - Early Head Start involves delivering high-quality child and family services as defined by the Head Start Performance Standards and other regulations. The role includes oversight of day-to-day classroom operations for children ages three to five, ensuring a safe and healthy environment while promoting children's growth and development through effective teaching practices and organized learning experiences.

  • Promote children’s growth and development by providing responsive care and effective teaching practices.
  • Utilize Creative Curriculum to provide quality, developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Ensure learning environments include age-appropriate supplies and materials.
  • Use positive guidance strategies to support social-emotional and behavioral health.
  • Complete ASQ-3 and ASQ-SE screenings with parents and facilitate referrals as needed.
  • Conduct daily health checks and ensure proper sanitation of classrooms and materials.
  • Track daily attendance and contact parents regarding absences.
  • Provide family-style meal service and ensure food safety guidelines are followed.
  • Conduct educational home visits and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Document services provided and maintain accurate child and family files.
  • BA in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field with direct experience teaching infant, toddler, or preschool children.
  • Current Infant/Toddler Child Development Associate (CDA) or Oregon Registry Step 7.5 with direct experience teaching.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Pediatric First Aid/CPR Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Oregon Food Handler’s card or ServSafe® Food Safety Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be enrolled in the Oregon Department of Education-Child Care Division Central Background Registry.
  • One year of experience working with low-income families.
  • One year of experience with home visitation.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Experience with special needs children.
  • Two years of experience in family support programs or adult education.
  • Full-time, year-round position.
  • Starting pay at $20.26 hourly, depending on experience.
