About The Position

Harbor Point Behavioral Health Center offers intensive residential treatment services within a secure setting. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of youth ages 7- 17 who are experiencing emotional, psychiatric and educational difficulties. In addition to our general psychiatric programs, we also offer specialty programs for youth with more serious challenges. Harbor Point and its programs are fully accredited by The Joint Commission and the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Educational Facilities. We are licensed by The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services and the Virginia Department of Education. We are a TRICARE-approved and certified facility. The Teacher will provide educational services to Middle School age children (Grades 6-8) attending our residential school - according to the facility standards as well as State and Federal regulations. Educational services include assessment, instruction, classroom management, documentation, consultation, IEP/IIP writing, transition planning, program development, curriculum writing and resident supervision. Education teachers should possess knowledge of: 1. Subject matter to be taught - VA Standards of Learning 2. Theories of learning and teaching (modifications & accommodations) 3. Stages of learning 4. Effective teaching methods 5. Assessment principles and types 6. Cognitive/Behavioral/Social Learning theories and principles 7. Effective classroom management techniques 8. Methods for observation/data collection 9. Current Special education laws Middle School Teachers should possess skills to: 1. Present effective lessons aligned with appropriate standards 2. Organize and plan rigorous and engaging instruction for a multi-grade level middle school classroom 3. Establish classroom expectations and hold students accountable for meeting them 4. Manage classroom behavior effectively and in alignment with the Level System 5. Maintain positive relationships with students and co-workers 6. Organize and maintain documentation related to job duties

Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Education.
  • Current Virginia teaching license in Education with Middle School endorsement.
  • At least three years of experience in a classroom situation is preferred.
