The Teacher - Academic Intervention Lead (AIL) supports the strategic coordination of the school's intervention programming. The AIL will collaborate with administrators, teachers, guidance counselors, social workers, related service providers, and the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) district team (if applicable) in supporting effective instructional interventions and structural systems for students through the use of data, knowledge of students, and familiarity with resources and supports. The AIL will support teachers in making adjustments to instruction and implementing intervention decisions and practices through consultation with teachers, meetings with families, and engaging partners providing support. The AIL will teach while using partial release time to support teachers in their development. The AIL works to improve educational outcomes for students by working collaboratively on student performance with teachers, school counselors, social workers, and other student wellness support team colleagues. Candidates will demonstrate a proven track record of student success, leadership abilities, effectively implementing intervention strategies, and fostering collaborative relationships among stakeholders to drive student success. They will possess strong communication skills and the ability to adapt interventions based on ongoing assessment data, and feedback. These activities are in support of Baltimore City Public Schools' interests in teacher support, development, and retention in service of improved success for students.

  • Instructional Support:
  • Demonstrate effective instructional techniques in small group settings or during designated intervention periods, serving as a model for educators.
  • Provide support to educators in implementing instructional and interventions (including SCRIPT plans) strategies through small group, departmental, and individual meetings.
  • Work closely with the ILT and academic coaching staff to enhance instructional techniques, organizational practices, and pedagogical strategies.
  • Facilitate workshops, training sessions, and ongoing support programs to enhance effective instructional intervention techniques.
  • Support teacher communication with parents regarding the need for student support, including program offerings and outreach.
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and reflective practice within the school, encouraging ongoing learning and development for all educators.
  • Student Intervention:
  • Implement systems for monitoring and documenting individual student progress.
  • Analyze student performance data to monitor the overall success of the academic intervention programs and improve offerings based on student needs.
  • Help identify structures and supports to address both academic concerns among students.
  • Assist departments and teams in establishing strategies and frameworks for identifying students in need of interventions, devising intervention plans, and executing appropriate interventions.
  • Provide progress reports on intervention activities, quality assessment, and performance, including support provided by external tutors.
  • Other Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with school administration to assess and refine a multi-tiered system of support within the school environment.
  • Collaborate with school administration and master schedulers to appropriately schedule academic intervention supports.
  • May serves as a member of the school Instructional Leadership Team and collaborate with other departments and teams.
  • Attends all district professional development, including meetings with the relevant academic office teams.
  • Participates in the summer institutes and professional learning (e.g., participant, co-facilitator, content developer).
  • Stay abreast of available student support systems, programs, and changes based on student needs.
  • Stay updated with the latest educational trends, research, and best practices to ensure that mentoring and support efforts are informed by current knowledge and understanding of effective teaching strategies.
  • Required: Bachelor's degree in education or related field; Master's degree preferred. Degree must be from an accredited college or university.
  • Required: Valid Maryland Standard Professional or Advanced Professional teaching certificate.
  • Required: At least three years of experience as a classroom teacher; experience teaching multiple grade levels preferred; urban experience preferred.
  • Required: Experience coordinating, designing, and/or facilitating learning and development activities for teachers.
  • Required: Experience delivering or coordinating academic intervention for students.
  • Required: Prior evidence of high-growth student learning in the relevant subjects (in the top 25% compared to other teachers in the state or on national tests)
  • Strong organization and planning skills; ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Advanced skills in the use of Windows environment and applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Google Workspace.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theory including coaching, leading professional learning communities, facilitating teacher teams, and developing and leading professional development.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to identify, prioritize, and organize tasks to efficiently and effectively accomplish assigned and self-generated tasks.
  • Skilled in interpreting, understanding, and applying data to improve student and school outcomes.
