About The Position

This position includes homeroom advisory responsibilities for a class of 17 third grade students, and teaching science to five sections of third grade or fourth grade students daily. This is a full-time, 10-month, exempt position. Some evening and weekend work is required.

Requirements

  • Possess the knowledge or experience needed to design a developmentally appropriate science experience for students in third and fourth grade.
  • Possess background knowledge in the developmental characteristics of elementary school-aged children.
  • Have a rich background in teaching science through inquiry and exploration.
  • Have the ability to support students in their acquisition and development of key process skills related to scientific thinking.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Science department as well as apply recent research and NGSS to design and implement curriculum.
  • Have the ability to support students in their development of key habits of successful learners.
  • Have at least 3-5 years of prior teaching experience with elementary students.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills (both writing and speaking) and a highly refined work ethic.
  • Demonstrate competency with student-centered technology and an interest in advancing and supporting its use to enhance student learning.
  • Have a desire to be part of a community that values difference and actively engages with it.
  • Show a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (e.g., familiarity with concepts; evidence of relevant personal growth; examples of relevant practice, etc.).
  • Be a motivated collaborator, possess a strong work ethic, and have a positive spirit.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for a Third Grade homeroom of 17 students in a departmentalized grade level.
  • Teaching science to five homeroom sections daily, alternating units between third and fourth grade.
  • Participating in lunch duty and afterschool carpool duty.
  • Writing progress reports on all students three times per year; leading scheduled parent teacher conferences four times per year.
  • Collaborating with a team of five homeroom teachers in both third and fourth grade, as well as within the Lower School Science team.
  • Attending divisional and departmental meetings; participating in professional development activities; observing/being observed by colleagues/administration and giving/receiving feedback.
