About The Position

The Natural Resources Specialist V position at the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is a full-time role focused on supporting water rights activities and rule development within the Water Availability Division. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the protection of Texas' water resources and public health, while working in a hybrid environment that allows for both in-office and remote work.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field, plus six years of full-time experience in environmental activities.
  • One year of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.
  • A master's degree in the relevant fields plus five years of required experience.
  • A doctorate degree in engineering, science, environmental science or related fields plus four years of required experience.
  • Two years of full-time experience as a Natural Resources Specialist IV at the TCEQ.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating and supporting water rights activities and rule development for the Water Rights Permitting & Availability Section.
  • Develop guidance and procedures to improve permit processing and regulatory processes.
  • Aid management in planning, coordinating, and tracking permit activities.
  • Assist with preparing for, attending, and documenting permit-related meetings.
  • Prepare and review informational material on water rights related topics and conduct presentations at workgroup meetings.
  • Track information requests from upper management, media, stakeholders, and legislators.
  • Review and track proposed legislation and assist in rule development.
  • Analyze legislation to develop recommendations for policy and programmatic issues.
  • Complete/participate in special projects related to water rights permitting.
