About The Position

The TB/Mycology Section Microbiologist Supervisor is responsible for overseeing testing and supervising staff in the Acid-Fast Bacilli/Tuberculosis (AFB/TB) and Mycology testing areas within a biosafety level 3 laboratory. This role ensures accurate test results, timely turnaround, and compliance with various health and safety regulations while managing personnel and resources effectively.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in biological sciences with emphasis on chemistry, mathematics, and/or computer science.
• Two years of experience in biology, microbiology, virology, parasitology, or molecular biology in a laboratory setting.
• Valid New Mexico Driver's License.
• Ability to pass DOJ/FBI security clearance for laboratory access.
• Must obtain Hepatitis B and Rabies vaccinations.
• Ability to differentiate colors and use sterile techniques.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a biosafety level 3 laboratory setting.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Supervise at least 2 staff members in the AFB/TB and Mycology testing areas.
• Ensure testing turnaround times and deadlines are met.
• Maintain accurate test results and ensure supplies are within budget.
• Train and supervise personnel to ensure competency.
• Ensure compliance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA), College of American Pathologists (CAP) certification, and OSHA regulations.
• Manage TB Elimination Grant elements and performance measures.
• Communicate regularly with the DOH TB Program and aggregate data for the CDC.
