About The Position

This direct entry exempt position requires a working knowledge of tax concepts, practices, and procedures and specialized knowledge of state income, federal income and/or non-income tax laws, as applicable.

Requirements

• Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications in Accounting, or related field, required
• 5 to 8+ years relevant experience and Big 4 accounting firm experience strongly preferred
• Comprehensive knowledge of accounting and tax requirements and the underlying policy, practices and procedures of public companies
• Basic knowledge of tax return processes is required

Responsibilities

• Assisting in the identification and documenting of tax return positions, particularly as it relates to property tax positions and federal prevailing wage compliance necessary to claim certain federal income tax credits
• Analyzing transaction facts and applicable law to ensure Vistra’s tax positions are duly supported and documented
• Supporting the quarterly and annual provision process and responding to questions and inquiries from the financial statement auditors
• Reviewing property tax returns and work papers for a complex group of legal entities
• Analyzing applicable laws and providing applicable modeling analysis in the property tax space to support property tax challenges as well as to support development decisions
• Performing technical tax research using electronic research services and generating documentation to support tax return filing positions and refund claims
• Monitoring federal, state and local tax regulatory and legislative developments and assisting with the interpretation of the implications for the company
• Assisting the tax controversy team in responding to information document requests and analyzing data
• Strategic thinking and problem solving to deliver excellent client service to the business units
• Further providing outstanding client service through responsiveness to questions and requests by the business units, including interaction with staff and departments throughout the organization
