Coastal Payroll is currently hiring a Tax Specialist to join our growing Tax Team. In this role, you'll be responsible for ensuring accurate payroll tax payments and filings, resolving tax notices, supporting treasury functions, and serving as a trusted resource for both clients and internal partners. This role is ideal for someone who is detail‑oriented, comfortable communicating with clients and agencies, and enjoys problem‑solving in a fast-moving environment.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of payroll taxes, quarterly and annual tax filings
  • Understanding of banking, treasury, and money movement functions
  • General knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Strong analytical and math skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to stay organized, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with clients and agencies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) or equivalent relevant work experience

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily tax deposit and reconciliation procedures
  • Communicate with clients regarding non-sufficient funds (NSF) matters and provide appropriate guidance on next steps
  • Perform necessary account reviews and implement updates or changes to funding methods as needed
  • Process treasury files accurately and in a timely manner to ensure proper financial transactions and recordkeeping
  • Perform money movement functions, monitor, and provide a summary of activities
  • Oversee the treasury activities and provide a summary of
  • Perform quarter-end procedures - tax return filing, tax payments, and reconciliation
  • Resolve tax notices
  • Resolve tax variances and run adjustments in the payroll system in order to correct errors
  • Communicate with tax agencies and clients
