About The Position

The Tax Site Coordinator is a part-time, seasonal role (October - April), dedicated to ensuring that our staff and trained volunteers are providing excellent tax preparation services to our community. The Tax Site Coordinator is responsible for training volunteers prior to the tax season (between October-December), managing operations for the tax site, and ensuring quality tax preparation for clients during the tax season. This position reports to the Tax & Benefits Manager. This is an on-site position, with onsite work conducted at Congreso’s main office and occasionally in the community. This position requires working hours on Saturdays and weekday evenings during the Tax Season (January through April). The Tax Site Coordinator applies the principles of the organization’s signature service delivery approach, Primary Client Model (PCM™), by promoting a positive employee/client-focused experience that is appreciative of the unique strengths, values and needs that each individual brings; and by using data to inform and drive decision making. Attention is given to compliance, quality assurance, and best practices as they relate to the role.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma required, Associate’s degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years of advanced tax preparation experience required.
  • VITA Tax Site Coordinator Certification, to be obtained each year before the tax season begins along with all other required VITA certifications for tax preparation.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) written and verbal skills is required.

Responsibilities

  • Represents Congreso’s mission, values, and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and will be an ambassador of our work.
  • Prepares simple to complex tax returns during the tax season, using the Taxslayer software.
  • Assists volunteers with preparing tax returns and provides quality assurance.
  • Interviews clients to obtain additional information on taxable income, deductible expenses and allowances.
  • Uses all appropriate adjustments, deductions, and credits to keep clients' taxes to a minimum.
  • Has an understanding of IRS regulations and policies that pertain to individual tax returns.
  • Conducts Quality Reviews of tax returns prepared by volunteers.
  • Manages the client flow during the site hours to ensure smooth operations.
  • Facilitates VITA trainings for volunteers.
  • Oversees and supports all program operations, including but not limited to, program and volunteer management, compliance, and data tracking/reporting.
